Monday January 29th, 2018

Hey guys!

This week was pretty crazy! On Tuesday, we had splits, and Wednesday, we had splits, and Thursday, we had splits, on Friday we had our Zone Conference, on Saturday, we got told about our transfers, and on Sunday, I got transferred. It was a crazy week! 

So, on Tuesday I went on splits with Elder Verde (Elder Green) haha who is a greeny. He's just barely starting his second transfer. He's from Mexico City and doing really well!

On Wednesday I went on splits with Elder Shunk, who is a new elder from Utah. He's just barely starting his second transfer as well, and is progressing a ton! We worked really well together!

On Thursday, splits were normal, I worked half a day with Elder Flores and half a day with Elder Huntzinger. Elder Flores is from Puebla and Elder Huntzinger is from Utah. We had a pretty good day, we found quite a few people who want to progress in the gospel.

The Zone Conference was all day long, but it was pretty cool. Elder Antonio and I talked about the importance of teaching the doctrine of Fornication and Adultery correctly. It went pretty good!

Ever and Teresa are still progressing a ton! Because they're not married, they have to one, get married, but to do so they need to present certain documents, so Teresa went to Guerrero this week to get them. They're an awesome couple! I'm really sad that I won't be able to see them continue to progress.

Ivan's baptismal date fell through because his job changed his working schedule and can no longer go to church. We were all sad about that.

Well, I'm sure you're all wondering where I got transferred to, so I guess I'll have to tell ya. I don't know if you remember, but I started my mission in and area called Jardines. Well, in that building there are two wards that meet there, Jardines, and Villa Verde. Well, these two wards combined and formed a ward called Barrancos. I have been assigned to work in this ward. I even live in the same house as before. The cool thing is that I can now talk with the people in Spanish. It's awesome! I'm still a Zone Leader, and my companion's name is Elder Torres. He's also from Veracruz, but from a different part then Elder Antonio. I'm really excited to work hard here!

Questions:

Dad: In the Baja, but I like Sinaloa more.  (Where do all the Missionaries want to serve the most?)

Mom: The plane ride is about an hour and a half. The plane is super small! Only 12 people fit. It's honestly a pretty boring flight because there's nothing to see. All you see is a ton of water. Yes, the ocean is beautiful, but an hour of seeing a mass of blue water without anything else is a little boring. And it's worse when the person sitting next to me doesn't want anything to do with the gospel because there's no one else to talk to.  (Tell me about the plane ride from Cabo to Culiacan and back.  How long is the ride, how big is the plane...etc...)

Holly: I like using the scripture in Matthew that talks about Jesus' baptism.  (How do you teach people about 3 separate beings in the Godhead?)

Sam: Yes. I think it's mostly because I'll have to adapt back to life and I won't be able to the same thing I do here.  (Are you nervous to come home and if so, why?)

Dylan: Most likely in the flooring business. But I'm not sure.  (What job are you wanting when you get home?  I have grown about 6 inches by the way.)

Hey guys!

Forest put on his coat for the first time since being on his mission and realized that he had a hunting call in his pocket from the last time he wore the coat back home.  

So, this week we had the Leadership Meeting in Culiacan which was pretty cool! The meeting lasted all day, and afterwards we, the elders, arm wrestled. I only lost to Elder Meadows. It was awesome, but I was pretty sore the next day. On Wednesday we went on splits with Elder Meadows just for the morning, and we were able to put a baptismal date with one of his investigators. At noon we had to be at the airport and on our way back to Cabo. While I was in the plane, almost to San Lucas, I saw one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life! I was looking out the window right as a whale jumped out of the water and came splashing down. It. Was. Awesome!

Also this week, we taught Ever and Teresa, who are not married, the Law of Chastity, and during the next lesson Teresa pulled out her pamphlet and said, I just feel really good with you guys, and I want to read something I wrote. She started to read her letter which talked about how much she loved Ever and how she's been waiting for him to ask her to marry him for 7 years and he hasn't done it. She then asked him to marry her and part of the promise was that he has to continue to read and pray with her so that they can become an eternal family. He said yes. It was awesome! The Spirit was so strong!

Dad: yes and YES  (Will you take a picture of your Casa for us? and are you ready for a new companion?)

Mom: No, we didn't get to watch it.  (Since you were in Culiacan for training on Tuesday, did you get to see the broadcast and the press conference from President Nelsen?  There was a question from someone in Mexico and President Nelsen mentioned how much they loved the people of Mexico.  It was cool!)

Holly: We all have little things that can impede us from walking with the Lord. What we need to do is try our best, learn as much as we can about the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and apply it to our lives. We'll all make mistakes, but what we learn from them is what counts.  (Do we have things that make it hard to walk with the Lord, and how can we overcome those things?)

Sam: It's crazy scary!  ( Is it weird for you to think that I can take driver's ed right after you get home?)

Dylan: How much?  (Guess how much I have grown since you left?)

Monday January 15th, 2018

Hey guys! 

Sorry I'm writing so late today. Tomorrow is the Leadership meeting so we had to come to Culiacán and we had to take care of some problems. I actually don't have a ton of time, but Iván is progressing a ton! He went to church yesterday and told us that he loved it and is going to go again next week. When we told him that we had to go to Culiacán, he asked us if we could leave more homework for him to read since we´d be gone for a couple of days. He's so prepared! We moved his baptismal date for the 27th of this month.

We also put a baptismal date with Antonio and Juaquína for the 17th of February. They went to church yesterday for the first time and really enjoyed it. Juaquína wants to invite all of her kids to listen to us! This week we gave some service to them in a different house that they have. They're an elderly couple and we helped them move some dressers and some beds. This week we're gonna help them paint the house.

Mom: We don't have a Ward Mission Leader..... and with Western Union. I don't know the address, but it´s in the Colonia Lomas del Sol, and it's close to an Oxxo.  (Tell us about the ward mission leader and how he and the ward members help you.  Where is the Western Union to wire you some money?)

Holly: No.  (Did you get to watch President Monson's funeral and will you get to watch the broadcast from President Nelsen on Tuesday?)

Sam: Yes.  (Being in a resort type town, are the stores very "Americanized"?)

Dylan: Pretty awesome! haha  (How do you feel about having just shook hands with and met President Nelsen a year ago and now he will be the next President of the church?)

Hey guys!

So, we received quite a big blessing this week.  We received a reference from the elders in San José. The guy's name is Iván. He's 20 years old, and is trying to look for ways to get closer to God, and is willing to do what ever it takes to achieve it. In the first lesson we talked about faith, repentance, and baptism; and committed him to baptism. His baptismal date is for the 3rd of February, but is progressing really fast, so we're going to see his progress this week and ask the Lord if he'll be ready to be baptized by the 27th of January. Our first visit with him was on Friday, and we made an appointment with him for Saturday. We had him read 1 Nephi 8, which is Lehi's vision of the Tree of Life. He asked us what the fruit represented, and how he could partake of it. We explained to him that it was Eternal Life, and how he would be able to receive it. When we asked if he had to work on Sunday, (church starts at 9 am), he said, "I don't have to be at work till 3 pm, so let's go to church!" It was awesome!  And when we asked if we could come back and visit on Tuesday, he asked if we could come on Monday instead.  He's really been prepared by the Lord!

We also have an investigator named Soar, who told us this week that he was in Oakland, California from the year 1994 to 1995! I'll have to take a picture with him and send it to ya.  (Forest's dad served his mission in Oakland, California from 1994-1996)

Yesterday, a member of the bishopric asked me to give a talk next week, but not my companion, which I thought was a little weird.

Ever and Teresa continue to progress, as do Raul and Gloria.

Dad: He's always ready to get out and share the gospel, but he gets mad really easy and is a bit prideful.  (What is your favorite thing about this companion and what is difficult about him?)

Mom: By text message from the President's assistant.  (How did you missionaries get told about the passing of President Monson?)

Holly: Good question. Honestly I'm not sure exactly how to respond, but according to my knowledge yes, they will see their families, but they won't be a family if that makes sense.  (Will people still see their families even if they are not sealed?)

Sam: No, my favorite area is still Navolato. The people were really awesome there!  (s Cabo San Lucas your favorite area so far if not what is ...Why?)

Dylan: He as well went to the Spirit World until His resurrection. After His resurrection He went into the presence of the Father.  (We go to the spirit world when we die...where did Jesus go?)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (Mom's birthday is this Friday.)

Hey guys! Well, I'm sure you're wondering why I didn't write yesterday, well the answer is that we received instructions from President Gabaldón that all the cibers would be closed, so we all had to write today.

This week was pretty good!  We hadn't really been able to find need until this week. We felt prompted to watch a short video about how to strengthen your marriage, and when we watched it, Teresa started crying and telling us everything that's been going out. They both really opened up and we were able to make some plans to help them improve their relationship.

This week we were also able to put a baptismal date with Raul and Gloria. They were both really receptive. Raul had some questions about the Book of Mormon and how the church was restored, and usually we pull out the scriptures, pamphlets, and our testimonies to teach the story; but this time we brought the full Restoration video to show them. We watched the entire 1 hour and 20 min video with them, and it was super powerful! They both understood the importance of the Book of Mormon and a Prophet. The Spirit was super strong. It was an awesome experience.

So, yesterday and Sunday, for safety reasons, we had to be in the house by 7:30 pm, so our District Meeting started at 5 instead of at 6 to give us more time to get back home in time. In my district, there's us, two more elders, and two sisters. Well, we all left the church building at 6:30 to give us plenty of time. At 7:20 we started to call the District Leaders to see if their district was at home, or a least close. All were at home, except for the sisters from our district, who weren't answering. We, as well as their District Leader, continued to call them and send them messages for the next 20 to 30 minutes with no results. I called the Assistant to the President who instructed us to keep calling for the moment, and he would give us further instruction in a few minutes. I told him that the sisters live near a member and that I could call the member to go and check and see if the sisters were in their apartment. When I called the member, she wasn't at home, so she couldn't go and see. We then got a call from President about 10 minutes later telling us to go to the sisters' home to see if they were there. Since they live a little ways away, we would have to take a taxi. As we were getting ready to go, a weird number called us, it was the sister missionaries. They had lost their phone, and had called us from one of their neighbor's cellphones. We let the Assistant and the District Leader know that they were safe and we started  making our dinner when President called us saying that he wanted us to go to their apartment anyway to make sure that all was okay, and to take an extra phone we had in the house to them. When all was said and done, we got back to our house at like 9:15, the sisters were safe, and the taxi didn't charge us very much. It was a crazy night!

Mom: I like to ask the question why do they think they're here on the earth, or what they think will happen after we die, and then start teaching the Plan of Salvation.  (What phrase gets most people to listen to you?)

Holly: By remembering who you are, and what you stand for.  (How can you stay pure even when the people around you aren't?)

Sam: Here, New Year's Eve.   (What is celebrated more, New Year's Eve or New Years Day?)

Dylan: Yes.  (Do you still have to hand wash your clothes?)
